Zirconia crown Smile Makeover, are you happy?

Main Post:

Hi guys,

Long story short. I had normal but partly crooked teeth. Also, I had 4 composite veneers and they got dark so it was time to change them. I am 27 years old.

Anyway, long story short. I got zirconia crowns makeover. 13 teeth up and 10 in the bottom.

We did not finish yet, but all my teeth are prepped and I am with temporary now, waiting for crowns to be made.

Honestly this decision was so fast that I still can't believe I did it.

Those of you who had them done (total smile makeover) for a while already, please tell me, how does it go, how's your life wearing them?

Guys, if you did not do it, no need for the "why did you do this to the healthy teeth" etc. I know. Enough. It's done! There's no way back! I want to hear from people who live with a mouth full of zirconia crowns.

Top Comment:

Shouldnt really matter if they are happy with their makeover...just make sure you are happy with yours. When we do smile makeovers- I let the pt sit in the chair with the crowns /veneers and a mirror before cementing for 5-10 mins. sometimes they will bring SO also.

has anyone used smile.com.au?

Main Post:

Need to get some dental work done and have been seeing ads for this site. It looks good but I had never heard of it until now, like at all. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with it?

Thanks!

Top Comment: My understanding is that these "quick 4 weeks results" type dental sites are using techniques that are not considered good practice by dentists- shifting teeth too fast would cause loads of damage. Think about it, if the results were good, why wouldn't every dentist offer it? But I'm not a dentist, so take it with a grain of salt.

Smile.com.au - info please

Main Post:

Hey everyone. I have top/gold private health/extras and need a number of fillings and a root canal. I am going to be out approx 2k after my insurance covers some. Has anyone used smile.com.au in conjunction with their private health, or just in general? Is it legit? How does it work, do they just pay you back on the invoices or do they pay the dentist? Thanks for any info anyone can help with.

Top Comment: I've used it, it's legit. It stacks with existing health insurance and paid for itself in one visit and has done so several times over since.

Best way to save on dental?

Main Post:

I recently signed up to teachers health fund but now having second thoughts after reading many bad reviews on PHIs in general.

We only use the Extras Essential Plan under my dad's name which cover all seven of us family members. https://www.teachershealth.com.au/health-insurance/our-products/extras-cover/essential-extras/ costs $46.58/fortnight or $1211/year.

I wonder if I am better of to pay them out of pocket fully or is something like smile.com.au a viable option?

Top Comment: Floss.

Is smile.com.au dental cover too good to be true?

Main Post:

The ads for https://www.smile.com.au/ keep bombarding my Facebook feed. It looks great but I'm very wary about dental cover being so cheap or such great value.

Has anyone had any experience with this company and benefitted?

Does anyone have any brutally honest thoughts on it?

Do you know if it's actually good value or a gimmick?

I'm so skeptical 🫤

Top Comment: In my experience unless you know you need dental work it wasn't really that beneficial and even then it was only saving me an extra $150ish on $3500 treatment. I still have the policy as I don't really notice the $99 premium each year. You can combine it with your extras cover though I'm unsure on limitations seems slightly suspect to me haha

Is the Smile dental insurance worth its fee? Is it any good or should one avoid it?

Main Post: Is the Smile dental insurance worth its fee? Is it any good or should one avoid it?

Top Comment: My opinion on insurance is that the house always wins and it should only be used to turn catastrophic outcomes into manageable ones. On average (cue reply about how pet insurance saved one person $5000), you are better off saving what you would have spent on insurance into an emergency fund. Many people don't have the temperament to do this, but since you're in this sub you're probably fine. Always remember that there's usually an excess, and if you become more of a risk because you have an illness or you had a car crash, insurance companies will not hesitate to jack up your premium.

Apple a day hasn't worked. Looking for cheaper dentist due to being an idiot.

Main Post:

Basically, I'm shit scared of dental work. Which means I haven't been to the dentist in a decade. Now, I'm in a situation because of it. I think I'm gunna need a lot of work done, extractions/fillings, maybe some more involved stuff due to a wisdom tooth that's been cramping my style for a while.

I don't have private health, and I know it's going to cost a fortune. I've seen some places offer zippay etc, but are there any dentists that are known for doing a decent job without charging an arm and a leg?

I've heard it's a good idea to go on private health for a little while, but I can't wait too long either. I've gone from knowing it's needed to being in pain. Not enough for an emergency, but who knows if that'll last?

Top Comment: I don't recommend Dentists for Chickens. I am also a chicken. My partner used them to sort something and also to see if they'd be good for me. Not at all. Low cost means churn and burn, they don't care. Watagan Dental at Cooranbong I recommend. They care and are receptive to your concerns. Edit: you're not an idiot, anxiety is powerful

Smile Dental vs local dentist

Main Post:

I am curious how others discern the difference between the big chain dental clinics and local dentists?

My observation has been that Smile Dental tends to not keep dentists for a short time and is focused on volume, not quality. Local dentists tend to be more focused on quality and the needs of the patient. What’s your experience been?

Top Comment: I can't remember why but I ended up getting assessed at 2 local dentists within a short time frame. One said I had X number of cavities and the other said I had Y number of cavities - ALL the 'cavities' were on different teeth! I lost trust in the dentist field after that.

Dental care for low income earners

Main Post:

How does anyone afford to go to the dentist on a low income?

I’ve just rung a public dentist (SOR) as one of my fillings has fallen out plus I’ve a toothache and there is a 12-month wait just for a check-up for a new patient, and the receptionist said it would be a similar story elsewhere.

So that means my only option is to pay for Smile Dental insurance and to cross my fingers I can still afford private dental fees and to eat.

Anyone got any better ideas?

Top Comment: If you have a health care card you may be able to get cheap dental treatment at the Oral Health Centre of WA - student dentists, but they're supervised. Just as good!

Best dental insurance? Low wait times..

Main Post:

Need to get dental insurance, happy to wait a couple months (preferably not a year), insurance that covers more than just check ups.

Top Comment: Every insurance brand covers more than just check ups if you buy the right tier..
